Building the capacity and sustainability of 15 local community coalitions in Oakland County, ACHC has helped communities unite in prevention strategies such as reducing underage access to alcohol and tobacco, and providing parents with guidelines for hosting safe celebrations.
Current goals are to:
1. Increase capacity to build community coalitions.
2. Prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.
Current Projects include:
1. Underage Drinking Prevention Initiative

Our History
The Alliance of Coalitions for Healthy Communities (ACHC) is the expansion of the Coalition of Healthy Communities (CHC) formed in 1994 when four community coalitions came together in a regional collaboration to effectively address substance abuse prevention. In 1999 the CHC added three more coalitions, increasing the membership to seven coalitions representing 17 communities in Oakland County.
In 2003, the ACHC determined the organization needed to expand and offer its services to a larger audience. With guidance from the Oakland County Office of Substance Abuse Services, coalition leaders from across Oakland County met for eight months to discuss the next level of support to area coalitions and from those meetings the ACHC was created. The ACHC strategic plan has been adopted and implemented. Policies and procedures are enacted. The CAIT prevention license 631251 was granted.
As a unified voice for prevention, fifteen Oakland County Coalitions representing 44 communities have operated according to its core value of respect for the individual development and autonomy of each coalition. United in utilization of the public health model, the coalitions participate in the processes of communication, collaboration and coordination.
